Robotics and Coding - Mission Afghanistan
Afghan Women Support (AWS) Launches Robotics Program with Mechanical Advantage (MA)
In partnership with Mechanical Advantage, robotics champions from San Diego, AWS is excited to launch a program teaching Afghan high school girls the fundamentals of robotics and programming.
Mechanical Advantage, a nonprofit FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team, has years of experience in hands-on robotics education. They have excelled at prestigious international events, receiving awards such as the Motivate Award at the FIRST World Robotics Championship, the Innovation Impact Award at the FIRST Global Innovation Awards, and the Most Global Impact Award at the Jacobs Teen Innovation Challenge.
Through this program, students will learn in an interactive and supportive environment, even remotely. Mechanical Advantage will utilize their innovative methods, offering exciting robotics experiences in their workshops, known as "the Garage," equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
This initiative is designed to inspire the next generation of female STEM leaders in Afghanistan, providing them with the skills and confidence to succeed in the world of technology. Mechanical Advantage is a nonprofit corporation and competitive FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team dedicated to expanding access to Science, Technology, Engineering & Math learning through innovative remote and in-person courses.
Mechanical Advantage is proud to offer an introductory course in Python programming, called Mission to Mars, with a hands-on remote laboratory component where students can remotely operate a robot to help reinforce learned concepts.
Students participating in the course will write code directly onto a robotic rover and view robot functionality using an on-board camera system in real time. Combining coding fundamentals with practical robotics experience, students gain a comprehensive understanding of programming and its real-world applications.
